John McPhee's Coming Into the Country

I remember a line about the excellent fishing that was so good that it "exagerated the requirements of dinner". Grin. Mcphee is in the NYorker for that type of wit.

I also read this book. The town slated for the location of the new capital was Wasilla, Alaska! I found the third section the most interesting, because of how he described the folks living in the bush, often squatting on land later claimed by the government. McPhee's lyrical writing is a joy to read.
